Why do people study the Alexander Technique?

People are drawn to the Alexander Technique  for a variety of reasons.

1) This is the most common! To alleviate pain through re-learning movement habits and patterns that interfere with the natural coordination and balance of the musculoskeletal system.

2) To enhance performance, improving competitive edge and to successfully navigate RSI (Repetitive Syndrome Injuries) that can affect longevity in the prospective fields for all manner of athletes, singers, dancers, and musicians.  Lessons will improve breathing, vocal production, speed and accuracy of movement and broaden the visual field while in conscious control of the artistic discipline/craft.

How does the Alexander Technique work?

Habitual patterns of tension, learned both consciously and unconsciously can be unlearned, enabling the possibility of new choices in posture, movement and reaction. During lessons you'll develop awareness of habits that interfere with your natural coordination.  At first with a qualified teachers’ guidance you'll learn how to undo these patterns and develop the ability to consciously redirect your whole self into an optimal state of being and functioning. Through direct experience you’ll learn how to go about your daily activities with increasingly greater ease and less effort.

Study options available that suit your lifestyle! You, as the learner, will have a choice of learning formats that feel comfortable for you. Virtual and In-Person Sessions last 45 minutes to 1 hour. Enjoy a hybrid learning experience combining both!

“I was in a car accident and sustained an injury to my neck and back and developed numbness into my arms with my hands feeling like pins and needles. I was referred to MaryBeth and following the first lesson I noticed a difference in more mobility and lessened pain – I committed to a series and it was the best decision ever! I called her “the missing link” and that once I added her to my Care plan I started to truly heal from the accident.  I reduced and eventually came off my pain meds.  I would recommend the Alexander Technique and MaryBeth in particular because she also brings in other methods to help alleviate symptoms and pain specifically aromatherapeutic products custom made.”
